Eind april gaan kunstenares Amie Dicke, curator Michiel van Iersel en Lars Ebert, van Castrum Peregrini, met een stoel op reis van Amsterdam naar het Haus der Kunst in München. De stoel behoord tot het interieur van Castrum Peregrini, tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog een toevluchtsoord voor Duits-Joodse onderduikers. Op de weg terug nemen de reizigers een stoel mee uit München, die door Paul Ludwig Troost werd ontworpen voor het ‘Haus der deutschen Kunst’ dat in 1937 werd geopend. Deze stoel wordt tijdelijk geïntegreerd in de historische omgeving van Castrum Peregrini.

De tijdelijke uitwisseling van twee stoelen uit Castrum Peregrini en het Haus der Kunst in München (zie After Aura) geeft aanleiding tot een debat over de omgang met historisch beladen architectuur. Met o.a. Ulrich Wilmes (hoofd tentoonstellingen bij het Haus der Kunst), Michiel van Iersel (non-fiction Amsterdam), Amie Dicke en Maria Rus Bojan (curator Performing History, Venice 2011).

At the end of April 2012, Amsterdam-based artist Amie Dicke, curator Michiel van Iersel, journalist Kristina Petrasova and Castrum Peregrini programme co-ordinator Lars Ebert will accompany a chair travelling from Castrum Peregrini in Amsterdam to the Haus der Kunst in Munich. This chair was part of the furniture at Castrum Peregrini when the building served as a hiding-place during WWII. From Munich, the travellers will bring back a chair designed by Hitler’s favorite architect at the time, Paul Ludwig Troost, who also designed the ‘Haus der Deutschen Kunst’, which opened in 1937 as the first representative monumental building of the Third Reich. This temporary exchange of chairs addresses a variety of issues
around the question how to deal with historically loaded heritage.
On Saturday 16 June, there will be guided tours to the chair installation as well as the hiding-place at Castrum Peregrini. The tours take place at 15, 16 and 17hrs as part of the exhibition Paradox – Limits of Liberty . Reservations are required on mail@castrumperegrini.nl
